Kiruna Church
Kiruna Church (Swedish: Kiruna kyrka) was built between 1909–1912, from a design created by the architect Gustaf Wickman. The design of the building, which is by the way one of the largest wooden buildings in Sweden, follows the Gothic Revival style. Beside its impressive architecture the chapel is also known for its famous altarpiece created by the artist Prince Eugen, Duke of Närke.
Beside its Church, the town of Kiruna is particularly known for its iron ore mine, as well as the European Space and Sounding Rocket Range (Esrange). It is said that Kiruna Mine is the largest and most modern underground iron ore mine in the world. Unfortunately the expansion of the Kiruna Mine devours more and more pieces of the town, wherefore people and buildings have to yield. Due to the same reasons, it is estimated to be necessary also to move Kiruna Church in about 2025.
