Tjelvars grave (Tjelvars grav)
Lightpainting at a Stone ship grave on Gotland Tjelvars grave (Tjelvars grav), dated to the Bronze Age. The monument was erected from several large stones in the shape of a 18 m long and 5 m wide boat or ship. The site was excavated and reconstructed in 1938. Thereby the archaeologist found a pillaged grave with a sarcophagus made of stone plates, which still contained several burned bones and some pottery shards.
According to a legend, told in the 13. century “Gutasaga”, Tjelvar, who gave name to the monument, was the first resident of Gotland, who lived nearby on Tjelders farm.
